A musician enjoying music since childhood. Involvement in the Boland community of Paarl stretch over 37yrs of diligent service as organist, piano and recorder teacher, accompanist for choirs and instrumental ensembles and piano performer at various events. A keen trumpeter participating in several brass ensembles, being retired now, I spend my time composing for organ, piano, jazz band as well as for symphony orchestra.

This piano (acoustic and Rhodes) was written for my eldest son Lee-Grant. A Bossa-Nova for jazz band. The solo on the Rhodes is very satisfying to run through. Part of my first album New Journey.

On the Road to Cape Town was inspired by my love for touring and travelling. Digitally created by using the Band-in-a-Box computer programme purchased from PG Music Inc. The song was finally edited and prepared with the open source programme, Audacity. My love for music and my passion to share and share it with humanity, engaging each listener as...

This is an orchestral work for full symphony orchestra. Indulging in a recollection of past events in my childhood. The mood is generally playful except in the middle section where modern keyboard sounds are required to depict the nightmare dream. Sound Pictures are works of in which the listener's imagination has free reign.

This is a piece written in free jazz. A casual jam session comprising of a piano, vibraphone, jazz guitar and saxophone . A laidback lazy swing creating a carefree atmosphere. It is atonal but with well planned structure.

It could also imply, take time to: rest in the Lord and read His Word, ...to praise the Lord, .....to serve others........to pray and intercede for others ....

A very lively jam session.

Human beings like to chat. This inspired me to write five casual conversations. Many people talk the whole day and at the end of the day they have actually said nothing of value. No wonder the Word of God reminds us that our words must be few. Each instrument represents a voice and these voices discuss matters.......in a musical way.

Having been schooled in classical music at the University of Cape Town and later UNISA , my love for jazz just grew stronger, however, this is a chat between Bach and a friend on the road in a horse carriage.

This is a four voice fugue. Starts with the exposition during which a subject(topic) is brought forward. The subject is followed by an answer in a different voice. I view it as a discussion of some sort. A development of the subject material follows .I view it as "brainstorming" . The conclusion or Recapitulation finishes the discussion. The fug...

Ball room dancing has always fascinated me. The synchronization of two individuals is an art.

Written for piano way back in 1987. I decided to score this one for jazz ensemble with violins. A peculiar combination, yet it works well.

This is a modern A-tonal orchestral work, however the harmonic structure gravitates towards a tonal center. Well thought through and well balanced in terms of dynamics and instrumentation namely 4 wood instruments and 4 stringed. Imagine a small community of foresters living deep in the forest. They maintain and manage the forest. The tranquility...

Everyday has its own issues. Some urgent some less so. However, life is never dull.Thursdays are usually packed with chores and duties before weekend. Enjoy this busy piece.

This is a depiction of life in a rural village, somewhere in Africa. The shepherd leads his livestock at dusk after a long challenging day. The bleating of sheep, goats, the cow bells now and then, whipping the animals to keep the herd together, all part of moving them towards the kraal. Life is not complicated here and so is the harmonic architect...

The Bossa Nova is a very popular latin style. My favorite actually.

Latin Music has always fascinated me. A digitally produced rendering with the Rhodes keyboard playing the head tune throughout and piano, vibraphone, saxophone and guitar keyboard enjoying the soloing. A beautiful relaxing dance piece.

I salute the soldier. My heart goes out to those who lost their lives at the behest of compromised leaders. This piece is dedicated to all brave and fearless soldiers who lay down their lives in times of war . May their souls rest in peace and may their sacrifice not be in vain. God bless them.

This serenade was composed way back in 1998 as a school project .Meant for voice for voice and piano. It worked quite well for orchestra. The serenity of a loner ,the tranquility and the peace it brings is something I revered and reminisce about often.

This orchestral piece is dedicated to all parents. They took on the challenging task of raising a family.I reminisce about the good times as a kid but also the bad and ugly. In the middle section there is a slight pause to remind the listener that we are human and things can go wrong. However, we recover and continue our journey. The flute represents...

This Swing is composed for my youngest son Ethan. The Vibraphone head (main Tune) is complimented by different instruments. a lively rendering with a characteristic lilt.

Ballroom dancing was one of my hobbies during my youth. Reminiscing about those times, in my red and black tuxedo sweeping across the floor. Waltzes generally sound the same. This piece is in only one movement, developed on a single theme.

This piece is rendered in the Modern Jazz style. Free Jazz gives an opportunity to explore extra-ordinary harmonic combinations. The bass line is peculiar and not always in agreement with the melody. However, the harmonic architecture stays intact.

The second fugue in Bflat for three voices.

This is a tribute to the soldiers in all wars. The bereaved families and friends, young widowed mothers, the loss of a son brings indescribable pain. It is painful and many surviving families never come to grips with the loss. This is a baritone men's choir singing a vocalize in remembrance of those brave souls who fought in war. War is not necess...
