I think the idea that "stories own us" is true in that we create stories simply by living, but we also make choices to tell fictional tales, which will naturally reflect our unique voice. This voice is shaped by all the stories and influences around us, affecting how we view the world. I don’t see this idea as taking away our part in the process; rather, it celebrates how we express ourselves through storytelling.
