The use of henna is not only cosmetic; it is based upon very spiritual purposes, and protection. The henna night, called "Laylat al Hinna," follows customarily the night before the actual marriage, and includes all women of the bride's family. It is believed that evil spirits would be kept away, and that blessings would come to the marriage as the intricate designs are applied to the bride's hands and feet.
