Marriage amongst the Chaoui is eminently social. Weddings are celebrated in grand ceremonies of music, dancing, and storytelling. It is the women who often take center stage and lead most of the rituals that ensure the new union is blessed by the ancestors. Chaoui brides also wear heavy, intricate silver jewelry and riotously colored robes, framing their faces with the traditional tattoos.
