The two points articulated by the Nicene Fathers were that
Jesus is Eternal with God and the same essence as God.
The Arians said “there once was when he was not.” They argued:
1. John 3:16 says Jesus was begotten.
2. They translated Colossians 1:15 to say Jesus was the firstborn of all creation

Sometimes when we study church history we are projecting into a certain time a request for information on what they thought during that time.

But for christology when we are asking what happened, we are really asking for the main storyline of that era.

So we have this sort of creed that we're going to use to walk through the first part of this class.

This is not meant to be a systematic full orbed statement on christology.
