Aka Shambolika. Poet. Succinct yet lush. #recording #poetry #gardening #community #collaboration #newzealand #poem #health #speech #telephone #telephonedialing #careradio #voiceover #voicetracking #zipperclothing #singlelensreflexcamera #music #speechsynthesizer #domesticanimals #pets #acapella #choir #singing A collaborative poem written with community gardeners in Tūranganui a Kiwa, Aotearoa, for the Print-a-Poem workshop with Adel Salmanzedah--his print is the cover image, each person made one like this, and one line of this poem. Steel on asphalt on rubber on fire. Dad says hi Advice to my teenage self One of my oldest poems, from my early twenties. Re-written many times (my poems are never finished) and performed at many open mic nights in New Zealand and Western Australia I needed a poem to perform at my wedding, and no one else's poem would do. A tribute to Mahuika, Maui's Gran A lush, image-rich poem from my Poetry of Objects series, commissioned by gizzylocal.com as an advertising campaign for Retro Collectables, Gisborne. Creating poetry takes emotional energy. When reading poetry, sometimes this energy comes out and bring tears to my eyes. This poem is a prayer to the sky father Ranginui, whose tears fall as rain to his lost love, Papatuānuku, the earth mother, a plea to help me not choke up in front of my audience. A collaborative poem I helped the District Nurses write, at Tairāwhiti Hosptital, during a "Print a Poem for Good" workshop. With the print maker Adel Salmanzedah we created beautiful prints and this poem. Thanks to Creative New Zealand and Creative Communities for funding to make this happen. Demo of a cheesy song with a bad metaphor, which I wrote while in character as Barry, a conspiracy theorist hunting for Moehau man, the NZ bigfoot. This was for the 48 film competition, in may 2025. The problem with this cheesy song is it's actually quite catchy and is stuck in my head.
